We are here, on a meadow, lighted by distant street lights, on the location of a two-year association of two people, sometimes three, and two animals, sometimes three, from winter of 2003 until winter of 2005, from 5.15, half past 5, daily, regardless of weather, illness is prohibited. Since 2005, there has been one, accompanied by a being which does not speak, still frantically singing and dancing, circling the meadow, trying to outrun the Sun, and turning the meadow into the Walden lake, one-hour walks on the meadow to the life in the forest.

'Under the notion of a meritous theme - implicitly included is that I mean to convey that every ostensible reason for artistic actions results from, so to say, constructive activities within the human community.'

We are here, on a meadow, lighted by distant street lights, on the location of a two-year association of two people, sometimes three, and two animals, sometimes three, from the winter of 2003 until the winter of 2005, from 5.15, 5.30 a.m., daily, regardless of weather conditions, illness is not allowed. Since 2005, there has been one, accompanied by a being which does not speak, still frantically singing and dancing, circling the meadow, trying to outrun the Sun, and transforming the meadow into the Walden Pond, one-hour walks through the meadow to the life in the forest.

The diameter of the meadow – 300 steps,
To the south, southwest – the school driveway and the building of the elementary school,
To the east – houses between which the Sun raises,
To the north – the Jadran Film yard,
To the north-northwest – the approach footpath and the New Hospital,
To the west – the house with a copper gutter and the church.
On the meadow – 55 birches, 5 small pines, electricity-cabinet.
On the edge of the meadow – 14 light-bulbs.

I woke up at three – absolutely too early for any action,

He asked to go out – now it’s four in the morning,
he’s gently scratching the door,

I let him to the backyard, placed a little watch next to me in the bed,

I set the alarm on five, dressed and covered myself, turned the heating on,

It's five o'clock.
I’ll wait until at least 5.15, or not.

We go into the darkness.

We/I go mechanically towards the destination – the meadow.
Coldness is passing, breaking through the jacket, sweater, shirt, unpleasantly and continuously chilling the stomach.

I thought you wouldn’t come, how come you did?
Well, I had to come – she answered,
We are walking in circles, always following the same traces,
I’m starting to sing,

It's 2 a.m., it's 3 a.m., it's 4 a.m., it's 5 a.m.,
it's 2 a.m., it's 3 a.m., it's 4 a.m., it's 5 a.m.,
it's 2 a.m., it's 3 a.m., it's 4 a.m., it's 5 a.m., it's 5 a.m., it's 5 a.m.,
gently scratching the door, gently scratching the door, gently scratching the door, gently scratching the door, gently scratching the door...

I'm alone with my apple
I'm alone with my apple
bitten uneaten
always thrown for him to finish it
I'm alone with my apple
I'm alone with my apple
thrown for him to finish it
thrown for him to finish it
thrown to finish it
for him to finish it
thrown for him to finish it
for him to finish it

The other day I gave her apples
The other day I gave her apples
this much fruit
you’ve never eaten in your life
The other day I gave her apples
The other day I gave her apples
Dear lady, you’re wrong
Lady, you’re wrong
Lady, you’re wrong
Dear lady, you’re wrong
Dear lady, you’re wrong
Dear lady, you’re wrong

I’m alone with my apple
bitten uneaten
little swiss army knife
holding tightly in the pocket
I’m alone with my apple
I’m alone with my apple
Thrown for him to finish it
thrown to finish it
for him to finish it
thrown for him to finish it
for him to finish it

The other day I gave her apples
I grew up in an orchard
Which fruit was there
Pear cherry walnut
The other day I gave her apples
The other day I gave her apples
Dear lady, you’re wrong
Lady, you’re wrong
Lady, you’re wrong
Dear lady, you’re wrong
Dear lady, you’re wrong

I would like
to be able to solve it all
by powerful kicks
although I would like
to solve all that
by powerful kicks
leave him alone – by kicks
leave him alone – by howls
leave him alone – by kicks
leave him alone – by howls
leave the doggy
leave him
leave the doggy
leave him
leave him
leave him
leave him alone
leave him

Which fruit
was there
Pear cherry walnut
Pear cherry walnut
I grew up
In the same orchard
I’m your sister
In the same orchard
I’m your sister
In the same orchard
I’m your sister
In the same orchard
I’m your sister
In the orchard
In the same orchard
In the orchard
In the same orchard

It's 2 a.m., it's 3 a.m., it's 4 a.m., it's 5 a.m., it's 2 a.m., it's 3 a.m., it's 2 a.m., a, a,  it's 3 a.m., a, a, a, it's 4 a.m., a, a, a, a, it's 5 a.m., it's 5 a.m., it's 5 a.m., it's 5 a.m., it's 5 a.m., gently scratching the door, gently scratching the door, gently scratching the door, gently scratching the door, gently scratching the door...

And she precisely describes what fruit was where – pear, cherry, walnut.
And I say to her -  And I grew up at the same orchard, I am your sister, and she, poor thing, doesn't understand a thing, who am I now,

I got up at three, to see her,
I cannot move her by myself
I’ll just dress her, treat her with marigold,
The bed-sheet is what we are pulling under her
The big feathery pillow is easier
The quilt is the easiest,
That’s on her
She told me that the quilt is heavy,
It’s heavy to me, it's heavy,
She said

The map of the Walden Pond:
Area –  61 acres 103 rods
Circumference – 1,7 miles
Greatest length – 175.5 rods
Greatest depth – 102 feet

When I had mapped the pond by the scale of ten rods to an inch, and put down the soundings, more than a hundred in all, I observed this remarkable coincidence. Having noticed that the number indicating the greatest depth was apparently in the centre of the map, I laid a rule on the map lengthwise, and then breadthwise, and found, to my surprise, that the line of greatest length intersected the line of greatest breadth exactly at the point of greatest depth, notwithstanding that the middle is so nearly level, the outline of the pond far from regular, and the extreme length and breadth were got by measuring into the coves; and I said to myself, Who knows but this hint would conduct to the deepest part of the ocean as well as of a pond or puddle?

Last night at midnight I came to see her
She’s lying in bed and getting ready for the train,
I’m going home now by train
Let’s, let’s catch the train
My sister is heavy as a sack of potatoes,
when I need to lift her,
Heavy, as a sack, when I need to lift her,
Heavy, as a sack, heavy as a sack

A thermometer thrust into the middle of Walden on the 6th of March, 1847, stood at 0 degrees, or freezing point; near the shore at 0,8 degrees;
And here, today 7,8 degrees;

Damir, what do you cover yourself with, I cover her with a blanket, and then I put it in a quilt-case, so then I do not sleep all night, I wake up because I'm afraid that she is cold, I am afraid that the poor thing is freezing, This is her room, this is the living-room, here is the kitchen and here is the bathroom.
And will you come tomorrow, tomorrow is New Year's Day.

We are leaving now, bye-bye, when will you come tomorrow, same time, I'm so sleepy, will you also lie down a little bit when you get home,

Terrible risks as consequences of the decision to sleep, a possibility of dying in sleep, never to awake.

This is her room, this is the living-room, here is the kitchen and here is the bathroom.

And where are they, can you see them?

One says to me, "I wonder; you love to travel; you might take the train and see the country." But I am wiser than that. I have learned that the swiftest traveller is he that goes afoot.

Group 1 – 5 birches
Group 2 – 7 birches
Group 3 – 12 birches

To make a railroad round the world available to all mankind is equivalent to grading the whole surface of the planet;

Group 4 and 6 – 10 birches
Group 5 – 3 birches
and in Group 7 – 8 birches

But, though a crowd rushes to the depot, and the conductor shouts ‘All aboard!’ when the smoke is blown away and the vapor condensed, it will be perceived that a few are riding, but the rest are run over — and it will be called, and will be, ‘A melancholy accident.’

What! Is not this railroad which we have built a good thing?

Yes, comparatively good, my dear railroaders, that is, you might have done worse; but I wish, as you are brothers of mine, that you could have spent your time better than digging in this dirt.

And she says to her – Get lost, what are you doing here, you only came here to eat and get warm –  and she gets offended – so she says to me – She wants me to leave, so why do you get offended woman, you can see that she is not making sense, She is talking nonsense – Here, last night at midnight I came to see how is she – and she said – I have just put pork in the oven, and
the walnut loaf is already done, but it’s nothing – she is lying in the bed, constantly getting ready for the train, so she wouldn't be late.
She says –  Let's catch the train, let's go home, And I say to her,
you cannot go, your feet are hurting, you cannot go anywhere, that's the reason you are lying here. Poor me, I am lying here alone, Well, you are not alone, I will visit you, You always say that, and you never come.

Altogether – 55 birches

And why are you so thin, is it on purpose? Listen, he was like that as well, real handsome, just like you, thin, tall, sociable, the company is the most important to him,

None is so poor that he need sit on a pumpkin. That is shiftlessness.
I had three chairs in my house; one for solitude, two for friendship, three for society.

Walden, Walden… It’s blue at one time and green at another, even from the same point of view. Lying between the earth and the heavens, it partakes of the color of both. Viewed from a hilltop it reflects the color of the sky; but near at hand it is of a yellowish tint next the shore where you can see the sand, then a light green, which gradually deepens to a uniform dark green in the body of the pond. In some lights, viewed even from a hilltop, it is of a vivid green next the shore. Some have referred this to the reflection of the verdure; but it is equally green there against the railroad sandbank, and in the spring, before the leaves are expanded, and it may be simply the result of the prevailing blue mixed with the yellow of the sand. Such is the color of its iris.

I was enchanting last night again.
What is enchantment?
You know, when you cannot sleep at night, so you do something.

Tonight I was enchanting again. Would you believe it, they didn’t turn the oven on for a year, and they turned it on yesterday, and – it’s not working.

Electronics – something boiled over,

To me milk, to me milk, to me milk,
And maybe the codfish I was preparing to me, I was preparing, I was preparing, for the holidays, for the holidays, for the holidays, for the holidays, for the holidays, holidays...

And then last night they brought me a sucking pig – a huge piece, it has been roasting since 2.30 – 2.30, 3.30, 4.30, 5.30.

Three and a half hours.

It is probably roasted by now, I’ve already roasted mine yesterday.

All right, and how did it all start?

It started with my sister.

Yesterday she was screaming: mice, mice, mice in the room!
And there are no mice here.
It’s a delirium!
Delirium? How?
She doesn’t drink. However, she really likes to eat
Yesterday I made cabbage, very lightly,
added pasta for tomorrow,
She ate a full plate,
Then I grated the apples
made pastry like for the pancakes
thinly baked,
And each of us ate three
but she alone nine,
Then at half fast five I gave her
ham and a cup of tea,
And at ten she says she’s hungry,
See, how she likes to eat so much,
But, when she was younger she wasn’t like that.

Well, the one which took the blood sample yesterday, she said – You should buy that tea, that red one, what’s it called?
Hibiscus?
No, it’s not.
Dog Rose?
No way, Dog Rose!
Sour Cherry?
Come on, Sour Cherry!
Now I know – Cranberry!
That’s it, cranberry, yes, cranberry, that’s it...

There, too, I admired, though I did not gather, the cranberries, small waxen gems, pendants of the meadow grass!

And she took the blood sample. When I saw that – black blood, I got scared, blood should be red.

It is, blood is red, it’s red, blood is red, yes, it’s true...

I didn’t know it comes in milk packs as well!

What?

High on the sky crows which croak, mock, letting us now that they have noticed us – two mammals below them on the snow easily noticeable,

To anticipate, not the sunrise and the dawn merely, but, if possible, Nature herself!  It is true, I never assisted the sun materially in his rising, but, doubt not, it was of the last importance only to be present at it.

When I notice it,
at the height of three and a half meters,
it’s radius is – one meter,
I turn towards the West – nothing to the North,
towards the West – reflections,
no traces towards the South,
towards the East it jumped six meters
it’s bright red,
no traces towards the North,
towards the East five hundred meters to the left,
it is yellow,
when I notice it it’s bright red
hidden behind the chimney
towards the East it jumped six meters
it is yellow
towards the North daybreak
towards the West reflections
reflections, towards the West – the color of white gold
towards the West, reflections – the color of white gold

When she was a child
when she was a child
I brought them
fresh lettuce
When she was a child
when she was a child
I ran through their rooms
ran through rooms
ran through their rooms
I ran through rooms
ran through their rooms
ran through rooms

When she was a child
it was a three bedroom apartment
those were three sisters
I played with your dolls
When she was a child
when she was a child
I ran through their rooms
ran through their rooms
ran through their rooms
I ran through rooms
ran through rooms

It was

those were

and she’s smoking the whole time
she ate all the cigarette filters
Why did you eat all the filters
She ate all the filters
Why did you eat all the filters
She ate all the filters
Why did you eat all the filters
She ate all the filters
she ate all the filters
the filters
the filters
she ate

And she is smoking the whole time, she smoked 10 cigarettes, with that filter, she ate all the filters in front of me, Why did you eat the filters?

I got worried for you when you didn't show up, The snow is creaking under the feet, can you hear it, Somehow, we reached the subject – my work – How do you work, where do you find your inspiration? The key question, everything that has bothered me – to write down these stories, our meetings without her knowledge, that double-dealing, that artistic self-interest of mine, that greed, now all of that had a chance, got a chance to be announced, proclaimed.
I work out of something that I call a meritorious theme – out of everything that happens to me in life, in what I take part, so I work out of our companionship, our morning talks,
– Take my case, my story –

You remember when I told you how she liked to eat. Now, she doesn’t eat anymore, doesn’t speak. She only does this.
Now it all goes to the end.

The light which puts out our eyes is darkness to us. Only that day dawns to which we are awake.

The sun is but a morning star.

Promjer livade –
300 koraka,
Na jugu, jugo-zapadu –
školski prilaz i zgrada osnovne škole,
Na istoku –
kuće između kojih izlazi sunce,
Na sjeveru –
dvorište Jadran filma,
na sjeveru-sjeverozapadu –
dolazna staza i Nova bolnica,
na zapadu –
kuća s bakrenim žljebovima i crkva.
Na livadi – 55 breza, 5 borića,
ormarić za struju.
Na rubu livade –
14 žarulja.

TLOCRT JEZERA

A noćas sam opet vilovala. Zamislite moji nisu palili pećnicu godinu dana, i jučer su upalili, kad ne radi,

otišla elektronika, nešto je prekipjelo,

meni mlijeko,

3 i pol sata.

Valjda je sad već pečeno,
ja sam svojega već ispekla jučer.

Dobro, a kako je sve to počelo?
A to je počelo s mojom sestrom.

Probudio sam se, 5 je sati,
Probudio sa puno više hladnoće,
Danas -10, jučer -9,
Sam sam, nigdje nikoga
Sam sam, sam sam,sam
Grebe nježno po vratima
Čudim se kako je to uopće moguće,
Biti živ u takvome stanju,
Biti živ, živ
Izlazimo u crno, sve je crno,
Hodam, krećem se, gledam
Da barem dođe do svjetlosti,
Do svjetlosti, do svjetlosti, svjetlosti
Hladnoća me obuzima, smrt preuzima
Igram se, pitam se
Usnuli stražar ubijen na straži,
Četa vojnika zaklana, zaklana u snu

JUČER JE VIKALA, MIŠEVI MIŠEVI
MIŠEVI U SOBI, TU NEMA MIŠEVA
TO JE DELIRIJUM, KAKO DELIRIJUM
KAD NE PIJE, ALI VIDITE KAKO VOLI JESTI
JUČER SAM NAPRAVILA KELJ, ONAKO LAGANO
DODALA TJESTENINE DA BUDE ZA SUTRA
POJELA JE PUN TANJUR
ONDA SAM NARIBALA JABUKE
NAPRAVILA TIJESTO KAO ZA PALAČINKE
TANKO ISPEKLA
MI SMO POJELI SVAKI TRI
A ONA SAMA DEVET
ONDA U POLA ŠEST SAM JOJ DALA
ŠUNKE I ČAŠU ČAJA
I ONA U DESET ZOVE GLADNA SAM
TO TI JEDI, MESA, MESA MI DAJ

A jel ja vas zamaram s tim pričama
Hibiskus?
Ma ne, nije.
Šipak?
Ma kakav šipak!
Višnja?
Kakva višnja!
A znam sad – brusnica!

UŽIVALA SAM ONDJE, PREMDA IH NISAM SKUPLJALA, I U BRUSNICAMA, MALIM VOŠTANIM DRAGULJIMA, PRIVJESCIMA LIVADSKE TRAVE.

POJELA FILTERE
POJELA FILTERE
FILTERE
FILTERE
POJELA
FILTERE

Sjećate se ono kad sam vam pričala kako voli jesti. Sad više ne jede, ne govori.
Sad to polako ide prema svome kraju.
